The Government has promoted Air Commodore Anis-ur-Rehman, Air Commodore Sohail Ahmad Malik, Air Commodore Muhammad Salman And Air Commodore Ijaz Mahmood Malik to the rank of air vice marshal.

 Anis-ur-Rehman was commissioned in Pakistan Air Force on 29 March, 1982. He has commanded a fighters’ squadron, a fighters’ wing and an operational air base. He is a graduate of combat commanders’ school, air war college and national defence university. 

Air Vice Marshal Sohail Ahmad Malik was commissioned in PAF on 15 January, 1982. During his career, he has served as Chief Engineer JF-17 co-production and as Managing Director at Aircraft Manufacturing Factory Kamra.

 Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Tahir Rafique Butt was the guest of honour, while PN Chief Asif Sandela welcomed the special guest on this occasion. 82 midshipmen and 22 short service commission (SSC) officers, including 5 foreigners and 3 female were commissioned. Midshipman Shahriyar obtained the sword of honour.

National Engineering Robotics Contest 2012 was organized by NUST, STEM Career Program-HEC and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) at the College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (EME) Rawalpindi. Dr. Younus Javed, the Dean of Academics in his opening address, welcomed all the teams and honorable guests.

 He stressed that co- and extra-curricular activities play a very important role in building a sound personality and a successful human being. He emphasized on the participants that all competitions of human activities are focused for improvements and winning/losing is a byproduct.

 This is how we will grow as a nation. Brigadier Dr. Javaid Iqbal, the Head of Mechatronics Department and Chief Organizer of the contest, informed that more than 170 teams from different Engineering Universities, Colleges and Institutes from all over the country registered for the qualifying round. Major General Obaid Bin Zakria, HI(M), Commandant College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering in his address welcomed everyone to the National Engineering Robotics Contest 2012, he appreciated how the number of participants had grown over the years and the standard of the competition has risen. At the end of the ceremony the Chief Guest Dr. Muhammad Akram Sheikh (HI), gave away the prizes to the winning teams of “National Engineering Robotic Contest 2012” (NERC).

 In his address the Honorable Chief Guest, Dr. Muhammad Akram Sheikh while complimenting the efforts taken up so vigorously by NUST College of E&ME called “National Engineering Robotics Contest” a one of a kind platform providing the engineering students of Pakistan with an opportunity to get the complete engineering experience.

 He said that “Seeing such a huge turnout and the students working with such dedication on one of the most sophisticated field engineering has to offer, I can see the potential of our future engineers”. While acknowledging the importance of Mechatronics engineering he commented “Since every machine these days is a blend of several technologies, Mechatronics Engineering as a new discipline has found widespread acceptance in the world, including a large number of developing countries”.

Pakistan’s first fast-attack craft (missile) PNS Azmat was formally inducted in Pakistan Navy in a ceremony held at the PN Dockyard on Thursday. Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) Chairman General Khalid Shameem Wynne was the chief guest on the occasion.

 PNS Azmat is the first ship of its kind in the Pakistan Navy fleet. The craft has been designed and constructed by the China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company (CSOC). The ship was commissioned as PNS Azmat in China on April 23.


 Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that Pakistan Navy’s multiple international deployments were a manifestation of its commitment to guarantee a safe and conducive maritime environment for the world. 

 He said that PNS Azmat was an embodiment of the persistent endeavours of Pakistan Navy to remain relevant to the contemporary environment through induction of state-of-the-art technology. Wynne said that indigenous capability of defence production had been the aim of Pakistan’s armed forces and the fast attack craft programme would contribute to achieve that target by constructing a second craft at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. 

 He lauded the defence cooperation between China and Pakistan, saying the longstanding ties between the two countries were a manifestation of an enduring, multidimensional and deep-rooted relationship. He hoped that defence collaboration between the two countries would grow in the times to come.

 Earlier, in his welcome address, Vice Admiral Zakaullah said that induction of PNS Azmat was a moment of pride for Pakistan in general and Pakistan Navy in particular. He apprised the audience that the ship was extremely agile and capable of undertaking multiple roles, adding that it was fitted with modern weapons and sensors and a variety of defence systems.

 He added that the induction of the craft would provide operational flexibility to safeguard the country’s maritime interests effectively. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila, a large number of navy officers and personnel of the China Shipbuilding and Offshore Company attended the ceremony. The chief guest handed over the ship scroll to the Pakistan fleet commander.

 He visited PNS Azmat and was introduced to the project team. With the induction of its first fast-attack craft, the Pakistan Navy has become the first force in the region to have this advanced defence capability.

A Mirage fighter aircraft of the Pakistan has crashed in the Balochistan province while on routine training mission after it took off from the Pakistan Air Force’s Masroor Base.

The government of Pakistan appointed Air Marshal Farhat Hussain Khan Pakistan Air Force (PAF) vice chief of the air staff. Khan was commissioned in the PAF General Duties (Pilot) Branch on March 6, 1977. He served as a fighter pilot in various fighter squadrons and has flown almost all the modern weapon systems of the PAF.

 He has commanded a fighter squadron, a fighter wing and an operational PAF airbase. Khan has qualified Combat Commanders’ Course and PAF Air War Course. He is also a graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) and holds a masters degree in defence and strategic studies.

 During his service in the PAF, he has remained on various important command and staff appointments and served as air attaché in India. Khan has also served as JF-17 chief project director and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Board (PACB) chairman at Kamra. He has received Hilal-e-Imtiaz (military), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (military) and Sitara-e-Basalat.

The ZDK-03 AEW&C Karakoram Eagle provides has beed outfitted with Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar in rotodome which is mounted above its fuselage and wings to provide 360º radar coverage.

Pakistan today conducted a successful test fire of the multi tube, indigenously developed Cruise Missile Hatf-VII (Babur) having a range of 700 kms. Babur Cruise Missile is a low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, pin point accuracy and radar avoidance features. It can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads and has stealth capabilities. 

It also incorporates the most modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC), which enhances its precision and effectiveness manifolds. The missile was launched from a state of the art multi tube Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV) which significantly enhances the targeting and employment options of Babur Weapon System in both the conventional and nuclear modes. 

The test was witnessed by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmed Kidwai (R), Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), Mr Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organizations, scientists and engineers.

 The test will consolidate Pakistan’s strategic deterrence capability, and further strengthen national security. The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding success.

The budget for FY-2012-2013 has allotted Rs.545 billion for non-development segment of defense, which is Rs.36 billion more than that of previous year’s. Rs.209.27 billion of this allocation would be spent on salaries, Rs.143.54 billion for running expenses, Rs.120.52 billion for physical assets and Rs.57 billion have been allotted for civil works.

The Budget FY-2012-2013 has allocated Rs.264 billion for Army, (ground forces) which stands at Rs.12 billion more than previous year’s, Rs.244.48 billion. Out of this the salaries of (ground forces) Army personnel amount to Rs.146 billion.

 Pakistan Air Forces (PAF), has been allocated Rs. Rs.114 billion, with an increase of Rs.6 billion, as compared to previous year’s Rs.108 billion; out of which Rs.24.80 billion have been allotted in salaries, and Rs.22 .71 for running expenses.

 Pakistan Navy’s Rs.52.72 billion allocation stands at Rs.130, 000,000 less than it’s previous year’s allocation of Rs.52.95 billion: out of which Rs.16.35 billion have been earmarked for salaries, and Rs.8.35 billion for running expenses. Rs. 113.98 billion has been allocated in lieu of DP establishment and accounts, with Rs.24.39 billion for salaries, Rs.63.44 billion for running expenses.
